Let me start out by saying this is a fantastic audio console. While it may be positioned as "entry-level" by those who are accustomed to spending more money, the amount of functionality they pack in here allowed me to reduce approximately 10U's worth of rack space (for individual channel reverb, compression, and EQs) and the associated mess of TRS insert cables for everything.

The best part of a digital console like this is that all of your settings can be *stored* in both presets, and the full system configuration (including all of those presets) can be kept safely in a file on a USB key. Gone are the days when you come in on Sunday morning and find there have been gremlin's monkeying with your settings!

I have also built presets that can be recalled quickly and easily (using the user-defined buttons available on the front) for people with minimal technical training who want to simply "turn on a mic", but then there are other presets available that give you full control of your system, including all of the sub-mixes and DCAs that you want when someone who knows what they're doing is running sound for the full band and vocalists.. this includes actually hiding sliders for a whole bunch of unused channels to eliminate confusion (you did say you wanted "to turn on a single mic" right?)

I also used this as an opportunity to start doing in-ear monitoring, which the stereo AUX sends are perfect for. The fact the musicians can run the Yamaha MonitorMix app on their phones and control the exact blend of themselves vs the rest of the musicians has really made things better. I used to have wedge monitors that needed to be turned up so loud, they were actually filling the main sanctuary with sound due to the layout of the building. Those wedges are now disabled except for use in special circumstances!

I have also noticed that IEM's have helped a lot with instrument dynamics. Previously our pianist would play much harder as she was competing with the acoustic drums in her head, and now that she wears headphones and only hears what she *wants* to hear (including a little bit of drums) - she's playing more evenly and with a wider range of dynamics, except of course when the music calls for Forte!

On a final note, as an AV programmer I will *only* ever buy products that support integrated with a 3rd party control system. Even if you don't think you'll do it now .. being able to do it in the future is one of my requirements for future-proofing an investment. Yamaha has an app for completely controlling the console, so I was relatively confident this would be easy to integrate. I can attest that Yamaha does indeed have control protocol documentation that an advanced user can get access to which lets you do some pretty amazing things with the audio console.

This has become my go-to unit for sound processing where I need a "responsive human-interface" control surface. If I was designing a system where I was working exclusively with automation and only needed a custom touchscreen interface I'd probably use the TF-Rack.

This is a great entry level digital console that is great for the small church with basic needs. There are not a lot of "Fancy" features to confuse the volunteers, which is important in many churches. If you need a straight-forward console that just works out of the box, this could be the right choice. This is 5 star for the small, simple church. As your needs and desires advance other consoles may become a better choice. If simple is your need, this console is great.
