PREMIER TECHNOLOGY, PURE ARTISTRY

Shure's KSM137/SL-Stereo (SHU-KSM137SLST) is a stereo pair of cardioid instrument microphones that provide extremely natural response and sound capture. Engineered for live performance and studio applications, these mics have a multi-position low-cut filter and dB attenuation switches for superior handling of high SPLs. The beautifully crafted design includes premium electronic components, such as gold-plated internal and external connectors that contribute to the versatility, durability and precision of this microphone. This microphone requires phantom power and performs best with a 48 Vdc supply (IEC-61938). However, it will operate with slightly decreased headroom and sensitivity with supplies as low as 11 Vdc. In addition to the standard accessories, this stereo pair includes a stereo stand adapter (A27M) for mounting two microphones on one stand.

Features:

  • A Highly Consistent Cardioid Polar Pattern
  • Ultra-Thin, 2.5 µm 24-Karat Gold-Layered, Low-Mass Mylar® Diaphragm
  • Class A, Discrete, Transformerless Preamplifier
  • Subsonic Filter Eliminates Low Frequency Rumble (Less Than 17 Hz) Caused By Mechanical Vibration
  • Three-Position Attenuation Switch (0 DB, 15 DB, And 25 DB) For Handling Extremely High SPLs

With a history of innovation that began in 1925, Shure has turned a passion for making great microphones and audio electronics into an obsession. Shure continues to set the worldwide industry standard for superior, reliable products.

I love this mic on an acoustic piano or overhead choir mic. It has a smooth hi-mid bump that allows choir voices sound warm and natural without having to push gain too far.

I've used the KSM137's on drum overheads and various instruments. They have a fairly clean sound with lots of clarity and articulation. They have good transient and a nice full frequency response even though they are a mid size capsule.

I love using the X-Y mic mount as it gives you good stereo imaging while giving much more consistent phase for mono applications. So if you're recording in stereo, but feeding a mono house PA, it gives you a great compromise for both.

My only negative about them is that I think they (like most Shure KSM's) seem to have a very faint metallic ringing to their sound. It's very subtle, but if you've got a great speaker system you might notice it some.

Overall, these are definitely nice to have in you toolbox.
